8vo, xv, (1), 430, 2
Original decorated cloth, many b/w photographs and 2 folding maps.

Small closed tear in inner margin of one of the maps, very light bumping to corners and tail and head of spine. Private bookplate on ffep and a stamp of Jesup Memorial Library, Bar Harbor on rear side of frontispiece photograph. No other ex-lib markings.

With the exception of some very minor soiling on just a very few pages, this copy is exceptionally clean.

The original binding is still very bright and fresh, both the boards and the spine, and though it is an ex-lib copy, it quite obviously hasn’t been on loan for many times.
There are some text engravings depicting maori art which are functioning as tailpieces.

An interesting account of the culture and history of New zealand with regard to the original population, illustrated with very interesting photographs and 2 folding maps.

A copy of a book which is very scarce in its 1st edition.

Hocken p. 442.
