Original publisher's green cloth, gilt on front board and blindstamped on back board. All edges gilt. The extra litographed title page bears the title in gilt. A double page coloured map bound in at the rear, 24 magnificent chromotypographs which are protected by tissue guards, of which one showing the walled city of Jerusalem, a lithograph and 54 xylographs, all hors texte. Some of the chromotypographs with additional handcolouring. A few woodcuts in the text.
Rebacked with a plain cloth spine and a gilt title label. Missing two preliminary text leaves. Some very minor foxing throughout and some very occasional spotting, but the plates generally clean. The corners bumped and some occasional edgewear.
