Journael van de Nassausche Vloot, ofte Beschrijvingh van de Voyagie om den gantschen Aerd-Kloot, Gedaen met elf Schepen: Onder 't Beleydt van den Admirael Jaques 'L Heremite, Ende Vice-Admirael Gheen Huygen Schapenham, In de Jaren 1623, 1624, 1625 en 1626.

Modern vellum over marbled paper covered boards, oblong 4to., pp. 79.

A light and unobtrusive dampstain throughout the upper inner corners and some mild soiling to the lower corner of one page.

After the first and second edition by Jacob Pietersz Wachter in 1626 and 1643 respectively this account was published for the third time as part of Commelin's Begin ende Voortgangh, Van de Vereenighde Nederlantsche Geoctroyeerde Oost-Indische Compagnie, which is a collection of voyages. Hence it has no separate title page.

It contains five (three maps and two plates) of the original eight engravings as published in the preceding editions, numbered there a, e, f, g and h, while these full page plates are numbered here in the lower left corner Nº 1 through Nº 5.

Maps:

(South side of Tierra del Fuego)

Pascaert van de zeecust van Bysuyen Callao de Lima tot Bynoorden de Bay achter de Piscadores
(Map of the seacoast South of the port of Lima and North of the bay near the Pescadores Islands)

Plates:

Vertoning van ’t Callao de Lima
(View of the port of Lima)

Vertoning van de Haven van Acapuleo
(View of the port of Acapulco)

As the 1626/43 editions appeared in standard quarto format, the plates there are folding plates. But in this oblong quarto format the re-engraved plates are full page, so without a centerfold.

Though the 1643 edition is to be considered the most important of all editions, as stated by Tiele, this edition also contains the important account of the Portuguese explorer de Queirós (or de Quiros) about the unknown continent of Australia, named here “Austrialia” (pp. 68-74). It was omitted from the 1648 (though mentioned on the title page of that) edition and subsequent editions and also was not part of the original 1626 edition. Also on pp. 60-68 it contains Pedro de Madriga's description of Peru.

Church: "One of the most valuable and best written of the early Dutch voyages is the journal of Admiral Jacques l'Hermite's voyage around the world; 1623-1626. The object of this voyage was to find a better passage than that of Magellan by which the Dutch could reach the Moluccas from the east. By means of this voyage the Dutch were able to establish themselves in the East Indies."

This account, published anonymously, is attributed to Johannes Walbeeck.
