Author: Engelmann
Year: 1825-1830
Edition: First edition
Publisher: Rixheim; Zuber

A very rare, early lithograph by Engelmann with a view of New York, finely coloured by hand. The view captioned "Niagara" on the upper left side, "Vue de New-York" in the middle and "Westpoint" on the upper right side.

There is a short closed tear in the upper right margin (pict. no. 8) which has been covered with old archival tape on the back side (pict. no. 9). In the lower margin on the right someone has written in pencil "1825" (pict. no. 6).

The size of the paper is 30 x 47 cm, while the size of the lithograph without all the captions is 228 x 406 mm.

A rare lithograph, used for a small part by Zuber as the basis for the design of their famous scenic wallpaper (please see the article in Wikipedia by using this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zuber_%26_Cie ).

This particular litho is the first one out of a series of three. A complete example from the New York Public Library can be found by clicking the link below.
