Corners bumped, a total of 17 leaves blindstamped, mainly at the beginning and at the end, a few scattered tiny stains in the margins and mirrored stains in the margins of the pages 142/143, 304/305 and 318/319

Vol. 2: pp 4 [of vi (missing half title)], 412.
Corners bumped, a total of 30 leaves blindstamped, mainly at the beginning and at the end, further an exceptional clean volume.

Both copies with new endpapers. Apart from the defects mentioned this is a nice and clean set of the first issue of the first edition with page 181 of volume 2 misnumbered as page 381.

Richard F. Burton travelled and explored a.o. the African continent extensively, probably is the most important 19th century British explorer and published several books on this part of the world. He published books as well on Iceland, Brasil and of course on Arabia.
